on the a side you can find “icebreaker” solely, an eccentric sound with a steady bassline, percussive kicks, tripping shakers and a thoughtful, mysterious melody that touches all the frequencies of your body. turning to the b side we find “swingenious”, a groovier interpretation produced by a combination of spacey feelings and sophisticated instruments that will move every bone on the dancefloor. closing the ep is “in memoriam”, a melancholic version that is not short of an aggressive bassline, ambiguous vocals and deep introspects, all aligned to disconnect you from the reality of routine.

a mainstay in the underground house music scene for almost twenty years, joeski makes his next move on the mighty crosstown rebels with a sublime ‘tribute ep’ to the great divinity obatalá. the ep journeys through three tracks, where ethereal layers are used to infiltrate the dancefloor and varying tribal percussions, native chants and vocal haunts flow effortlessly throughout. from yoruba religion, obatalá is an orisha, sky father and creator of human bodies. joeski explains -i’ve been wanting to do this tribute for a while now. it’s a creative musical offering to obatalá. i feel like crosstown is the perfect home for it too.- joeski’s roots are in the underground house scene of nyc in the 90s, where he played regularly at historical clubs such as the limelight, tunnel, palladium and roxy. later establishing himself as a producer he began releasing music on nrk, siesta, shaboom, tango, junior boys own and many more. he also runs his successful label, maya records.

steinzeit concludes the mrt grey series. the duo is comprised of hansruedi schnuriger, one half of echo 106, and bjorn magnusson. they recorded these three tracks in a weekend s time inside magnusson studio, which is an abandoned factory in the middle of nowhere, in switzerland, using bare concrete walls as an echo chamber. the pace is slow, atmosphere is bleak, tone is melancholic, drums are evil. it reflects how switzerland feels in winter. lonely, and this is true, like the name of the tracks.

no light at the end of the tunnel. no helping hand to pull you out of the hole. no second chances. no god to cure this deadly disease. no heaven to save your soul after your final seconds... hope will hold on, but in the end, death shall claim it. all this, we understand a little more, day by day.
we will experience our absolute zero, and the stages of life that come as close. we think that we will never recover and that we are not strong enough to fight against it. our immaculate, peaceful souls, that we begin our lives with, start to bleed, and slowly get torn into, bit by bit by the cold hard truth that breaks our protective walls. we learn to handle and accept this even as pieces of us shatter and die every time a little bit more inside us. to give light, we must endure burning. but what if everything we are able to burn is gone?
